Forms of Government: Democracy vis-à-vis Republic

President Joe Biden frequently refers to the form of government of the United States as a democracy. Have you heard him say “our republic” even once?

A simple word search of the Declaration of Independence, the seven articles of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and constitutional amendments eleven through twenty-seven reveals no use of the words ‘democracy’ or ‘democratic.’

“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government…”

What is the difference between a democracy and a republic?

The singular and most important difference is the form of government. A democracy is ruled by a simple majority. A republic is ruled by laws that protect the rights of the individual, hence the Bill of Rights.

The spirit of the Rule of Law was expressed in the Declaration of Independence, the first sentence of the second paragraph. The overarching authority for the foundation of our country is our Creator.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…

All individual or organized human activity or behavior that contravenes the Creator’s expressed will violate the spirit and the letter of the Rule of Law. What is the Creator’s expressed will? The Creator expressed His will in the Holy Bible, the New, and the Old Testaments.

1I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.

Atheism, polytheism, communism, and homosexuality violate God’s will for your life. All four religious practices deny God and his sovereignty over all creation.

Founding Father James Madison penned the Federalist Number 10 (22 Nov. 1787)
I quote:
“From this view of the subject, it may be concluded that a pure democracy, by which I mean a society, consisting of a small number of citizens, who assemble and administer the government in person, can admit of no cure for the mischiefs of faction. A common passion or interest will, in almost every case, be felt by a majority of the whole; a communication and concert results from the form of government itself; and there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party, or an obnoxious individual. Hence it is, that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives, as they have been violent in their deaths. Theoretic politicians, who have patronized this species of government, have erroneously supposed, that by reducing mankind to a perfect equality in their political rights, they would, at the same time, be perfectly equalized, and assimilated in their possessions, their opinions, and their passions.”

For most of our history, there were Bible-believing people in both major political parties. While the Democratic Party distinguished itself as the party of human slavery, the Republican Party was founded to liberate all enslaved people. Today, homosexual and pro-abortion activists are generally Democrats, while Republicans generally support the Freedom of Religion and the Right to Life. Democrats like Joe Biden labor to relabel and rebrand our form of government from a republic to a democracy.

Democrats generally deny the Republican form of government, disregard the Rule of Law, promote the slaughter of unborn Americans in their mothers’ wombs, and ardently promote homosexuality.

Choose wisely.
