In 1954, the [unconstitutional] Johnson Amendment was added to the Internal Revenue Code, silencing churches and affiliated groups from involvement in political campaigns. Named after Senator Lyndon B. Johnson, it aimed to prevent tax-exempt organizations from interfering in political activities. Despite this, churches can educate their congregations on candidates and issues without risking their tax-exempt status.
