Bible Study: Oil is NOT a Fossil Fuel—Do I have your attention?

My Story

My third-grade textbook taught us oil is a fossil fuel. We were taught how dinosaurs died and underwent a metamorphosis to become oil. A Sinclair Oil Company gasoline station in my hometown of Palacios, Texas, employed a company sign featuring Dino the Dinosaur. I was convinced.

In the summer of 1965, at 17, I lied about my age to work for the Storm Drilling Company. My first offshore drilling rig was relatively small and served chiefly as a “workover rig” to rehabilitate a depleted oil well. After that first shallow-well experience in Galveston, I worked on larger drilling rigs out in the Gulf.

In the Summer of 1966, I was again working offshore drilling for oil and gas. One project of particular interest was a triple-completion gas well for ALCOA Aluminum’s oil company. Upon completion, the well tapped three deep gas-bearing sand formations, bottoming out at 15, 500 feet true vertical depth.

While working on other offshore rigs, diamond-studded drill bits had been employed to cut through rock formations. On the 15,500-foot job, we progressed only 40 feet per day. For several days, this involved 8 hours of actual drilling, 8 hours of pulling the drill pipe out of the hole in changing the diamond bit, and 8 hours of reinstalling the drill pipe string back into the hole.

Along the way to complete the three gas-bearing strata, we struck oil, but ALCOA did not want the oil; they wanted the gas to power their giant aluminum plant in Point Comfort, Texas. The oil-bearing sands were sealed off.

Remembering what we were taught about the origins of oil, I began to ask myself, “How did all those dinosaurs get down there under all that rock?”

I learned from experienced roughnecks, drillers, and specialists how some depleted offshore oil reservoirs in the Gulf of Mexico were known to recover, producing more oil after being declared ‘depleted.’

Oil, gas, diamonds, sulfur, and water are all-natural minerals we extract from the Earth. With the advent of ‘fracking,’ we now have unlimited oil and gas resources in Texas.

Worldview is Key

If you hold an evolutionist worldview, you will be comfortable with Dino the Dinosaur and his fellow dinosaurs turning into oil.

My Christian worldview, that is to say, my creationist worldview, places no limits on the creativity and the power of the Living God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This phrase, “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God,” in the unanimous Declaration of Independence of July 4, 1776, underscores the faith of our Founding Fathers.

A BP official told the [Engineering and Technology] magazine that “energy resources are plentiful. Concerns over running out of oil and gas have disappeared.”

Things are so good, in fact, that Engineering and Technology magazine says “with the use of the innovative technologies, available fossil fuel resources could increase from the current 2.9 trillion barrels of oil equivalent to 4.8 trillion by 2050, which is almost twice as much as the projected global demand.” That number could even reach 7.5 trillion barrels if technology and exploration techniques advance even faster.

The big ticket issue with the climate alarmists/globalists today is carbon dioxide (CO₂). These pretense gods have a goal to de-carbonize the world. They see CO₂ as a great threat to all of mankind. Is this true? If you are ignorant of the Carbon Cycle, you may be inclined to accept the claims of the climate alarmists.

Carbon is the most fundamental component essential to all life on Earth. Carbon makes up the backbone of all life on Earth. False prophets have been with us since the dawn of time. The false prophets are agents of Satan that labor to discredit the Living God and to deny His creation.

Is the end of life on Earth near? Can we possibly survive? The Bible reveals there will be an end to the Earth. Between now and then, there will be wars and rumors of wars, but these are not the end.
