The Atlah World Ministries Church was founded and organized in Harlem on June 6, 1957, by Reverend Millard Alexander Stanley as the Bethelite Community Baptist Church.1
If the Huffington Post is your enemy, count it all joy. Read a HuffPo story titled, Atlah Church Is Classified As A Hate Group. It’s Able To Run A School Anyway. The writer of the article criticized Pastor James Manning because he holds Barack Hussein Obama in disdain, publicly states the truth that homosexuality is an abomination to God, and his church hosts a school that teaches Biblical values to children, values like the sanctity of marriage, and the evils of homosexuality, contrary to the teachings in the public schools of New York City.
One news story titled Landmark Violations Could Force Atlah Worldwide Church to Take Down Sign reports, “A city-issued violation could force the controversial Atlah Worldwide Church to take down its controversial sign — which often displays homophobic and racist messages — after multiple failed attempts by critics who tried to pressure the church to put a stop to what they called hate speech.”
Irony: The homosexuals want to acquire the church and turn it into a home for homeless homosexual youths. The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) rules govern modifications to designated landmark properties and even have funds to preserve them. Obviously, if Atlah Church were to be converted to a home for homeless homosexual youths, the landmark designation would necessarily be removed.
I quote from the news story, “Please keep in mind that the Commission cannot legally regulate the content of a sign; however, permits must be obtained for the installation of signage on landmark properties,” says Damaris Olivo of the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Yes, this great church in Harlem is a landmark. To emphasize the significance of the church property, other notable landmarks are the Stature of Liberty, the Alamo, the Biltmore Mansion in North Carolina, and Independence Hall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Why do we protect landmarks? Landmarks are anchors to our history. George Orwell warned, “The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.” Malcolm X noted, “History is a people’s memory, and without a memory, man is demoted to the lower animals.” Martin Luther King, Jr. wisely observed, “History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition [the Civil Rights Movement] was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.“

“Then they will hand you over to be persecuted and will kill you. And you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.” Jesus advised his followers of their future in verse 9; read the full warning in context, Matthew 24.
