At Mom’s graveside funeral service, an older couple approached to introduce themselves. They wanted us to know their story of desperation during the Great Depression. Mom took them into her home, fed them and gave them clothing. The couple stayed in Mom’s home for over six months before the man found work enough to support his young wife. He said to me, “Not once in all that time did she ask when I was going to go to work.” Her generosity sustained a destitute young couple through the most difficult time in U.S. history. The man added, “We knew we had to share our story with you.”
