A Muslim outreach leader told visitors at a Plano mosque Saturday that Sharia is “already here,” describing it as a religious framework Muslims follow through charity, family obligations and personal conduct.
Outside the Islamic Association of Collin County, an Iran-born Christian who said he lived under Sharia offered a starkly different warning. He argued that Islamic law becomes dangerous when it gains political power and is enforced by the state.
The competing messages unfolded during an open house billed as “Understanding Islam & Shariah: Myths vs Facts.” About 100 people attended the event at the mosque.

Knowing the Definition of the Supreme Law of the Land is helpful. The definition is found in the U.S. Constitution, Article VI, the second paragraph.
(1)This Constitution, and (2)the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all (3)Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
What is Constitutional Law?
Article IV, Section 4, of the U.S. Constitution allows only one form of government throughout the United States of America.
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
Only the Republican Form of Government is Lawful
Communism: a political doctrine or movement based on Marxism seeking the overthrow of capitalism and the creation of a classless society.
Socialism: (1) a theory or system of social organization in which the means of production and distribution of goods are owned and controlled by groups or by the government. (2) a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
Sharia: (1) the body of canonical law based on the Koran that lays down certain duties and penalties for Muslims. (2) Sharia … is a body of religious law that forms the Islamic tradition based on scriptures of Islam, particularly the Qur’an and hadith. In Islamic terminology, sharīʿah refers to immutable, intangible divine law, in contrast to fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), which refers to its interpretations by Islamic scholars. (more)
Democracy: (1) ruled by a majority. (2) Founding Father Thomas Jefferson: “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” (3) The words democracy, democratic, and democrat appear nowhere in the texts of our foundational documents: the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
Many authors, elected officeholders, and speakers declare a need to “save our democracy”. Such people conflate a democracy with a republic.
The word republic derives from the Latin phrase rēs pūblica, meaning “the people’s thing.”
In both democracies and republics, the people vote for their governing officials. The striking difference is sovereignty, supreme and independent power or authority in government as possessed or claimed by a state or community.
Examples of so-called democracies:
- Russia—”Democracies are typically defined by competitive elections, rule of law, protection of civil liberties, independent judiciary, accountable leadership, and vibrant civil society. Autocracies centralize power in a single leader or ruling group, curtail political competition, limit media pluralism, and suppress opposition. Russia’s formal institutions—presidential authority, a constitution, a bicameral legislature, and a formal party system—exist on paper, but practical power concentrates around the president and elite circles. The gap between constitutional design and political practice is a core reason observers characterize Russia as autocratic rather than democratic.”
- Communist China—Voters vote for governing officials. Of course, the CCP is the only real political party.
Learn the differences between the republican form of government and democracy: Do you know? Democracy ≠ the Republican Form of Government
Republic: Many nations call themselves republics; Iran, for example. The main takeaway is simply this: in a true republic, governing sovereignty resides with the people. In contrast, the democracies of the world generally elect governing officials but sovereignty resides with the top governing officials.
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan memorably said in the mid-1990s, “Democracy is like a tram. You ride it until you arrive at your destination, then you step off.” Erdogan (pronounced air-dough-wan) has a goal of restoring the Ottoman Empire. If successful, he will stop off ‘the tram‘ of democracy and revert Turkey to an Islamic dynasty.
