What can an armed citizen do to protect innocent bystanders from a terrorist?

If you are in Texas, do as Texans do.

Article 1, Section 23 of the Texas State Constitution stipulates:

RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defence of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.

If you are in a place with an Islamist terrorist threatening the lives of those around you, act. Only do this if you legally carry a firearm. Act swiftly. Use caution as you respond. Can you find cover from which to fire your weapon?

The Islamist terrorist in the above photo wears an orange jacket. Is it a bulletproof vest? Shoot vulnerable parts of his anatomy: legs, head. Keeping your line of fire downward minimizes the risk of hitting an innocent bystander.

Are you carrying a weapon that can always be on your person? Small caliber handguns like my Beretta .32 caliber pistol are nowhere near as deadly as a Smith & Wesson .45 caliber pistol.

When a man is amused by the diminutive size of my handgun, it often indicates something. He probably has his big pistol… in his car or truck. I tell men with a large weapon in their vehicle, “Inform the armed bad guy, ‘Wait here.’ Then add, ‘I have to run an errand to my vehicle and I will be right back.'”

What should you do?

First, let’s accept the responsibility of coming to the aid of someone under attack by an armed thug.

Find a handgun you can comfortably have on your person in public places.

Seek local handgun instruction.

Learn to shoot and not harm bystanders.

Join the NRA.

Ask God for wisdom.
