Two New York publications decry the messiness of elections. Those leftist news organizations prefer an ‘elegant’ means of selecting presidents. The elitist editors and influencers, oligarchs-in-waiting, demonstrate a profound ignorance of basic civics.

The oligarchs-in-waiting who control the Democratic Party strive to dismantle our constitutional republic. They want a democracy, instead.

The Electoral College is a Constitutional Process

We, the People, do not elect presidents. The STATES elect presidents. Think for a moment. The title of the president is “President of the United States.” The popular vote within each state connotes the favored presidential candidate.

Civics miseducation throughout the country fails to teach the meaning of a state. “As a noun, a people permanently occupying a fixed territory bound together by common habits and custom into one body politic exercising, through the medium of an organized government, independent sovereignty and control over all persons and things within its boundaries, capable of making war and peace and of entering into international relations with other states.”

Each of our 50 states and territories of the United States exercises the popular vote to elect (to choose) various leaders: governors, state lawmakers, judges, county commissioners, etc.

Our nation is not a state but a federation of states. A federation is a union of states, societies, etc., each of which keeps control of its own internal affairs.

The Electoral College is a process, not a club, not a place of higher education. From the National Archives: “The Electoral College process consists of the selection of the electors, the meeting of the electors where they vote for President and Vice President, and the counting of the electoral votes by Congress.”

Texas and California have one point of commonality: they are individual states. In bygone years, Texas was a Democrat state, and California was a Republican state. In those years, Democrats and Republicans had certain distinctions, but they generally were similar in their respective worldviews. Over my lifetime, Texas has become a Republican majority state while California is the opposite, a Democrat majority state. For several years, Republicans have been fleeing California to reside in Texas, where the Californians have “common habits and customs.”

Democrat Congressmen and Congresswomen despise our constitutional republic, striving to convert our federation into a democracy. If they succeed, our nation, as a federation of sovereign states, will swiftly become a solitary state ruled by tyrants.

Democracy vis-a-vis Constitutional Republic

Democrats, in particular Joe Biden, speak about our Democracy being threatened. I ask you, “What democracy?”

A simple word search of the National Archives will reveal zero, none, nada instances of the words democracy or democratic. Try a search of the text of the transcriptions of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights (Amendments 1-10), and Amendments 11-27.

The Constitutional Republic of the United States of America has endured 236 years (1787-2023).

Of course, it took another 200-plus years for the nation to become what it has by the 21st century.” World Population Review As of July 4, 2023, the United States of America has endured 247 years.

The chief difference between a democracy and a constitutional republic is simply this: a constitutional republic operates under a set of rules, a set of laws, that guarantee equal protection of the laws, as per the 14th Amendment, Section 1, applies to citizens, tourists, legal immigrants, and illegal immigrants.

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. — AMENDMENT XIV, Section 1

Democracies are characterized by mob rule

My Opinion

Over my lifetime, I have instructed technicians, engineers, and salesmen. My teaching method is from a historical perspective. Understanding the history of any particular field of interest provides a basis for the student to build on the successes of his or her predecessors.

Edmund Burke famously said, “Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.” A friend recently asked, “Why do you study history so much?” I responded, “Because there is so much of it I do not want to repeat.”

Civics and history are two educational disciplines inextricably connected as though Siamese twins.

I agree with H.L. Menken’s statement, “Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.” The author of the Declaration of Independence points to public education as the means for the general public to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion.
