Climate Alarmism Is No Substitute For Good Information — The Irony: Clean Air causes Global Warming

The genesis of the environmentalist movement can be attributed to a book written by Rachel Carlson. Silent Spring was published on September 27, 1962. The focus of the book was environmental harm caused by the indiscriminate use of pesticides.

The environmentalist movement did not stop with pesticides. The banning of DDT “to protect the environment” indisputably caused deaths from malaria for millions of people around the world.^{10 11}

The air over two American cities, Birmingham, AL, and Pittsburgh, PA, was notoriously polluted by the emissions from steel plants. I remember driving through Birmingham in August of 1969, around midday, with our automobile headlights on. The street lights were also illuminated.

A TV episode of the Mork & Mindy Show humorously recounts the air pollution over the latter. Mork visits a mental patient who believes himself to be Peter Pan from Never Never Land.¹

MORK: I come from a place far, far away where the plants are as intelligent as the people and the sky is yellow and brown.
PATIENT: Pittsburgh?

By an Act of Congress in 1969, the authority of the states over the air we breathe and the water we drink, in the respective states, was ceded to the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).³

The Consequences of Environmentalist Activism

Long after World War II, the American steel service industry continued to flourish and serve as the foundation of the national economy. In 1969, American steel production peaked when the country produced 141,262,000 tons. Since then, large steel mills have been replaced by smaller mini-mills and specialty mills, using iron and steel scrap as feedstock, rather than iron ore.² America, once the largest exporter of steel in the world, is now the world’s largest importer.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, a study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) published in the journal Science Advances, reveals how Reducing human-caused air pollution in North America & Europe brings the surprise results of an increase in the number of tropical cyclones in the North Atlantic basin and a decrease in the number of these storms in the Southern Hemisphere. The report also reveals how the growth of particulate pollution in Asia has contributed to fewer tropical cyclones in the western North Pacific basin.⁴

Ancient Wisdom

Human nature seeks wealth. You disagree? When did you last seek poverty?

Ronald Reagan humorously said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”

Question everything the government does. The federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)⁵ and, the Texas Public Information Act⁶ are manifestations of the rights enshrined in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Bureaucrats are people, not superhumans with supernatural intellectual powers. Question everything. Confucius said, “The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.” The Word of God says, ““Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”⁷

On the issue of the byproducts of human activities, look to a biblical principle of human industry: “Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests.”⁸

In summary, the God who created this world created mankind. God also created all the resources essential to the support of life. Environmentalists bemoan atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) but the Carbon Cycle⁹ is essential to all life on earth.

Who does not want clean air and clean water? Should we not study the consequences of curtailing normal human behaviors?

Environmentalist activists decry human activities that affect our terrestrial environment. Well, now we know, based on scientific research, anthropogenic environmental laws that cleaned the air over America and Europe have the devastating side effects of global warming and increases in destructive hurricanes.
