School Choice

We, the 2020 Republican Party of Texas, believe in this platform and expect our elected leaders to uphold these truths through acknowledgment and action. We believe in…Having an educated population, with parents having the freedom of choice for the education of
their children.

2020 Texas Republican Party Platform, Principles 2.7

In Texas, at least 66% of the 17 million registered voters cast ballots in the 2020 general election. That’s 6.6 percentage points higher than total turnout in 2016, as reported by The Tribune. Republicans are 72.660% of all registered voters in Rockwall County.

Therefore, it is reasonable to say 72% of all Rockwall County voters favor school choice.

Troubling Text

Rockwall ISD trustees say they “oppose any state voucher plan, tax credits, taxpayer savings grants, tuition reimbursements, or any program that diverts public tax dollars to private school entities.” Diverts? An interesting verb choice.

What is the meaning of the word public?

Public, an adjective: of, relating to, or affecting a population or a community as a whole; done for, made for, acting for, or being in the service of the community as a whole

Polls indicate a majority of Americans support school choice, particularly here in the Lone Star State.

The trustees are acting against the will of the majority of the taxpayers within the boundary of the school district.

The school district trustees seem to hold a naïve belief that our tax dollars should only be used to sustain the school district, a governmental entity. No, trustees, those tax dollars are not your dollars; they are our dollars.
