While making calls within and/or near buildings, I notice my call leaves the 3G/4G radio frequencies for wireless internet calling.

Sure enough, today, 30 years after my article, some 80% of calls and data exchanges are terminated by Wi-Fi in unlicensed bands, not in the exclusive bands owned by big telecom.”
