- Headline, The Daily Economy, March 5,2025—Federal Dependency is a Ticking Time Bomb for State Budgets Excerpt: “Even states that claim to be fiscally conservative are hooked on federal money. Texas took in $102 billion for its 2024-2025 budget, nearly one-third of its total budget. That means Texas, like all states that average 36 percent of their budget from federal funds, is highly tied to federal mandates for what it wants to do.“
Editorial Comment: 100% of all ‘federal money’ comes from taxpayers in the states and U.S. territories. Not one penny of federal funds originates in the nation’s capital.
- Headline, DALLAS NEWS, November 11, 2021—Dallas leaders were bold in their corruption. City Hall must be bold in Ethics Reform
Editorial Comment: My company provided services to the City of Dallas for over 20+ years. I retired a few years ago. I saw the rise in corruption. Why did I not report it? The corruption was not hidden; it was all done in plain sight. ‘Obamabucks’ became available to spend on improvements to municipal buildings. The City Supervisors had the task of objectively selecting a master contractor. A local consulting firm invited me. I was to help the panel of Supervisors in their evaluations of prospective service providers. The outcome was excellent. Yet, the lead consultant persuaded the city official overseeing the process. He convinced them to ignore the unbiased findings of those City Supervisors. I knew those men well over many years. I refused to go along to get along. I disconnected myself and my company from the proceedings and declined payment for my services. Why did I not report it? The corruption was not hidden; it was all done in plain sight. This was not the case throughout my experiences with the Dallas City government. That experience convinced me to never again do business with Dallas.
What’s the Cure?
The cure is truly simple, a prescription written thousands of years ago.
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice;
but when the wicked rule, the people mourn.
Proverbs 29:2 MEV
The legal residents, the registered voters, choose their leaders. 100% of the members of the Dallas City Council are chosen by the voters.
The City of Dallas is a close example of the corruption destroying our major cities across America. A city’s leadership reflects the spiritual condition of the residents of the city.
The public information about the ill effects of corrupt municipal governments is a call for We, the People. We must turn from our wicked ways and call on the Lord to heal our cities. Consider the Divine prescription to heal our broken cities in a Biblical conditional statement, WHEN, IF, THEN:
When I shut up the heaven and there is no rain, or when I command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence on My people, if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:13-14 MEV
Historical Precedent: the wicked city of Nineveh, its story recorded in the book of Jonah. God does not want to destroy great cities. God wants to heal them and to prosper them.
God chose a righteous man named Jonah to be His messenger to Nineveh. Jonah did not want to go near the corruption of Nineveh. He chose to go the other way on a cruise. It was a bad choice with tandem consequences.
God’s persuasion effectively convinced Jonah to go there. He obeyed the Lord and a citywide spiritual revival reformed and saved the city.
Conclusion
Failing American cities desperately need to be healed and saved by the Living God. What is God calling you to do?
