What’s in a word? — שַׁלוָה | peace
Our federal government has become the most challenging outlaw in our entire history: open borders, the prosecution/persecution of political opponents, rampant corruption, brutish federal law enforcement, etc.
Inflation and exorbitant federal spending threaten economic collapse.
World War III is an imminent threat.
In our English-language Bible, John 16:33, The Lord Jesus says:
“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
Our English-language minds translate peace as an absence of conflicts or hardships. Read the verse again. In the first sentence, Jesus promises you will have peace…in times of tribulation.
The Hebrew word for ‘peace’ is שַׁלוָה, pronounced shalom. The Hebrew meaning of this word means “peace, wholeness, well-being in every area of your life. The third sentence is the key to understanding the promise of peace (shalom): The Lord Jesus has overcome the world and its conflicts, wars, and tribulations.
Ephesians 2:14-16 “For He [Jesus] is our peace [shalom], who has made both groups one and has broken down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of the commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile both to God into one body through the cross, thereby slaying the enmity.”
Judges 6:24 “Then Gideon built an altar for the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace [Jehovah Shalom]. Even to this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.”
Psalm 29:11 “The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace [shalom].”
There is much in this word, peace. Yahweh-Shalom [Jehovah Shalom] as used in Judges 6:24, means ‘The Lord is peace. Whenever there are storms in your life, hide in Him. He is your shelter in the storm. He gives peace beyond understanding, even when circumstances are chaotic. He is our shelter and our shield.’
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you!
Peace be within your walls
and security within your towers!”
Psalm 122: 6-7
