Election Day—Democrats Cross Over to Vote for Justin Holland

Last week, a Democrat group called Texans Defending Democracy sent a mailer to Democrat voters opposing School Choice. The image below was scanned from a mailer. The commentary is my own. I confess: Texans Defending Democracy aptly marked their false claims with four Pinocchios.

As a member of the 2022 State Republican Party Platform Committee, I attest to grassroots input from 254 Texas counties and 31 Senate Districts driving this platform plank. School Choice is popular matter, not an issue contrived by unspecified out of state financiers.

Most public school students live in the large metropolitan areas of Harris County, Dallas County, Tarrant County, Bexar County, Travis County, and Collin County. The four largest counties generally have the families most desiring School Choice.

Austin ISD in Travis County is generally known as the most liberal public school system, but School Choice is not as significant an issue as in other metropolitan areas. Why? Read this story from AXIOS Austin, February 26, 2024, Greater share of Austin kids heading to private school

The move to private schools in Austin follows a growing employment of highly paid employees. In 2010, 11.1% of Austin students attended private schools. By 2022, 14.7% attended private schools. Private school attendance tracks family income. The wealthier a family, the more likely the family will choose private schools. As reported in the news story, “The number of accredited private schools in Austin has grown from 68 a decade ago to 91 in the latest figures posted by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.”

We on the Republican Platform Committee realized the School Choice issue is important to families who want to get their children out of public schools and into private schools. Plank 101 is for working families who cannot afford the out-of-pocket expense of private school enrollment. The specious claim that “School Vouchers are for the wealthy” merits more than one Pinocchio.

Big money corrupts our Legislature. HD33 elected representative Justin Holland disregards the Republican Party Platform and disparages hard-working Republicans in the local Rockwall and Collin County Republican Party organizations.

Gov. Greg Abbott’s priorities include School Choice. Justin Holland aligns with the Democratic Party’s priorities. The Democratic Party urges Democrats to vote for Holland in the Republican primary election.

For the above reasons, my choice for state representative is Dennis London for House District 33.

Dennis London’s values align with those of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and U.S. Representative Pat Fallon. This Picture is used with permission. It does not infer endorsements from them.

My fellow Republicans, do you want the Democrats to choose your House District 33 representative? If no, you must vote in the Republican Primary on Tuesday, March 5.
