Tip of the Hat to Dennis London, my candidate choice for House District 33

In a conversation with a young man here in Rockwall, he criticized Dennis London for wearing a cowboy hat. I am unsure of that young man’s upbringing, but cowboy hats are common throughout the two most populous states in the Union, California and Texas, respectively.

I confess. I own two cowboy hats.

I became a Republican in 1980 when I voted in the Republican primary for cowboy hat-wearing Ronald Reagan. In 2016, I voted for cowboy hat-wearing Donald Trump. Now, in 2024, I will be voting for cowboy hat-wearing Dennis London for House District 33.

At our recent Rockwall County Candidate Forum, the incumbent, Justin Holland, attempted to discredit Dennis, saying Dennis is from California. The boos demonstrated Texas Republicans recognize that, despite the present dismal state of affairs in the largest state in the union, many great people and movements came from California, Ronald Reagan, for example.

On the spiritual front, California produced the Azusa Street Revival (1906-1915), the Jesus People Movement (the 1960s-1970s), and one of the first mega-churches, the Crystal Cathedral. There are 191 megachurches in California today.

Dennis London has labored in Texas leadership for years. His “Don’t California My Texas” campaign has touched the hearts of Texans in several of our counties.

I met Dennis, a USMC veteran, through our Terry Fisher American Legion Post 117 in Rockwall.

I prefer business owners as representatives, business owners that actually contribute leadership to a business, not simply enjoy an inheritance. Why?

Business owners are problem solvers; this is to say, they serve their customers by solving problems. Business owners in a position of representation work to solve the customer’s problems and satisfy the customer. In short, business owners inherently serve the interests of the customer.

Dennis London is a business owner who will represent YOU, not a PAC or other big donor.

Before you cast your vote for Texas State Representative for HD33, ask questions. Does he or she have a close association with Speaker Dade Phelan? Who donates to the candidate’s campaign? Search news media like Texas Scorecard to learn about a candidate’s predisposition to important issues.
