Carnal Thinking vs. Paying Attention

A wise man once said, “If you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.

In everyday life, difficulties confront us. It’s our nature to try to “figure it out.”

Instead of trying to “figure it out,” pay attention to what the Holy Spirit reveals to you.

Jordan Peterson: “When you pay attention, you’re looking for what you don’t know.”

James 4:3-10 MEV

You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your passions.

You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “He yearns jealously for the spirit that lives in us”? But He gives more grace. For this reason it says:

“God resists the proud [the thinkers]
but gives grace to the humble
[those who pay attention].”

Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to dejection. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

A psychologist explained to me long ago how people become psychologists and psychiatrists in order to understand themselves.

Dr. Jordan Peterson, a psychologist, experiences encounters with the Holy Spirit and is paying attention. My own personal encounters with the Holy Spirit in August of 1974 forever changed me.

  1. Yes, the Holy Spirit has been revealing Himself to me for so many years…I finally started “paying attention” about 10 years ago…and He has been “growing” me ever since. In the last 6 months, my eyes have been opened wide, and once they are opened, you see and experience the world in a different way. There is no turning back…you see the Truth instead of what you “want” to see.

Because of that, it is a time of unsureness as of what to do from now forward.

I am learning to trust in Our Lord Jesus, and know that He is guiding me and will reveal Himself to me as needed.

    Thank you for posting!
