Texas History, in Brief

1776 – The 13 British colonies of North America declared their independence from Great Britain on the authority of a principle of the government’s role to secure the people’s natural rights.

1821 – La Regencia Del Imperio Se Ha Servido Dirigirme El Decreto Que Sigue…Acta De Independencia Del Imperio (Mexican Declaration of Independence from Spain)

1825 – Stephen Austin’s contract to bring settlers to Texas, 1825
1836 – Texas wins independence from Mexico
1844 – A Treaty of Annexation concluded between the United States of America and the Republic of Texas.
1845 – Texas enters the Union after Congress approves the Treaty
1861 – Civil War begins as Confederate forces fire on Fort Sumpter
1861 – Texas was the seventh state to secede from the Union
1865 – Civil War ends
1865 – Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith surrendered the remnants of the Army of the Trans-Mississippi via Galveston Harbor.
1870 – Reconstruction ends
1869 – By Act of Congress, Texans were allowed to create a new Constitution
1876 -Texas repealed the constitution and created a new State Constitution that continues in force to the present day.
2022 – Texas State Republican Convention approves Planks 33 and 225, calling for the TEXIT referendum to be on the 2024 Republican primary ballot.

Constitutional Authority of the States to Secede from the Union

The U.S. Constitution authorizes no federal power over the secession of a state from the Union. Therefore, a State’s constitutional power to secede is reserved to the states and the people, per the Tenth Amendment (Amendment X).

Majority

The Texas State Republican Party is the majority party of Texas. By unanimous vote of the Delegates to the 2022 Texas State Republican Convention, the most significant body politic in the United States of America, the Platform invites the 88th Texas Legislators to authorize Republican voters to voice their support of, or opposition to, a 2024 Primary Ballot referendum on the issue of Texas returning to independence.
